Alkaline water is getting a lot of praise and termed as a miracle worker. It is associated with numerous health benefits and use for beauty purposes. Alkaline water is water that has been treated via an alkaline water machine. Alkaline water is created through the electrolysis process. In this process, the pH balance of water is raised. The alkaline water machine separates the positively charged and negatively charged molecules in water. Depending on the setting in the machine, it will result in either acidic or alkaline water.

The claim that drinking alkaline water improves your health by neutralizing toxins in the body is true. Several medical practitioners of holistic medicine claim that many toxins that cause illnesses in the body are neutralized by raising the body’s alkaline levels. Currently, close research is being conducted on whether cancer cells are unable to live in alkaline conditions. It will be a milestone in cancer prevention and treatment once the research is concluded. Other degenerative conditions like diabetes and arthritis are being tested using alkaline body conditions.

Drinking alkaline water strengthens your bones, thus preventing osteoporosis. During electrolysis, useful ions are infused in water, thus strengthening bone structure. Alkaline water is easily absorbed in the bloodstream and cells, thus improving hydration. This increases energy and mental alertness, the overall health, and boosting the immune system.

Alkaline water has a smaller molecular structure than regular water which makes it absorbed faster into cells and bloodstream

Alkaline water has some benefits to your skin and hair. When you use soap with hard water, the calcium and magnesium ions react with soap forming a curdled substance on your face or hair. The gooey residue remains on your skin even after rinsing thoroughly. With alkaline water, the filmy coating is dissolved, leaving your skin and hair natural and clean.

Dissolved elements in hard water can also damage your electronics like coffeemakers, showerheads, and faucets. Since alkaline water is free form the harmful substances, it is appliance-friendly.

Alkaline counterclaims

While many benefits have been attributed to alkaline water, there are some negative aspects;

The human body cannot be protected from the minerals present in alkaline water, unlike household appliances and pipes. The body assumes there are magnesium and calcium ions in water, which could be absent in the water.

Alkaline water can be useful in neutralizing acidity in the stomach and small intestines. Continuous intake of alkaline water makes the areas overly alkaline, which may result in severe conditions like bladder and urinary tract infections, anxiety, high blood pressure, and erratic heartbeat, among other serious health implications.

Taking alkaline water in moderation is key. It is recommendable to take up to 2 liters of alkaline water a day. For better results, it is recommendable that you get your body’s pH before attaining the ionized water. Avoiding alkaline water intake every day is essential since it protects your body from being too alkaline, which may trigger various health conditions.

More scientific research is taking place on the impacts of alkaline water in the body. Little evidence is available to back claims in the treatment of certain conditions.
